My Marine Biology Internships
I completed two voluntary internships in marine biology, in France and Mexico, to gain hands-on experience as early as possible. In my biology degree, marine biology is only a small part of the curriculum, and I wanted to quickly get out in the field to observe, learn, and contribute to research.
The preparation and organization of these internships were not easy: they were far from home, and I had to cover transport, accommodation, and living expenses, while taking a leave of absence from my student job (CDI).
Yet once on site, these experiences were incredible: I worked on scientific research (data cataloguing, photo-identification of species, reports, and statistics) and scientific outreach (infographics to educate tourists and the public).
I also developed my English skills, teamwork, and strengthened my lifelong passion for marine biology. These internships gave me a unique insight into fieldwork and applied science in different marine contexts.
